Each EiE for Kindergarten unit guides students through a five-step engineering design process. This process helps students to think and talk about their engineering work by breaking the engineering process into steps.
What is the problem?
What can I find out about the materials?
What are some of the ways I can solve the problem?
What would happen if I used this material?
Which materials will I use?
How will I use them?
Build my technology based on my plan.
Test it to see how well it works.
How can I make my technology work even better?
By regularly reflecting on this process with children, you are helping them to understand that engineers do more than just make things, and that problem solving for any purpose can be broken down into a series of manageable steps.
