Early childhood learning in Classroom through PreK-8 Engineering and Computer Science curricula at EiE

Our PreK – 8 engineering and computer science curricula and supplemental learning materials are developed with rigorous, evidence-based design principles and are tested in classrooms to ensure that the learning is effective and engaging.

Three attributes set EiE apart:

  • Evidence-Based Design

    • All our curricula are developed and built using a core set of design principles that have been proven effective through vigorous testing.
    • A five-year study concluded that our curricula improve learning outcomes for all learners, regardless of demographics. EiE curricula meets ESSA Tier 1!
  • Focus on Equity

    • EiE was founded with the explicit mission of engaging and empowering students from groups underrepresented in STEM fields.
    • EiE takes a socio-constructivist approach where learning happens best through collaboration and where all student voices are heard. EiE was developed using inclusive design principles where:
      - Learning is set in a real-world context.
      - Design challenges are authentic to engineering practices.
      - Lessons scaffold student work.

  •
  • Integrated Social-Emotional Learning

    • Our units are designed specifically to provide opportunities for practice with social-emotional skills – for example,
      - by empathizing with and seeking to help fictional characters,
      - working in groups to develop collaborative solutions, and
      - embracing failure as an opportunity to learn and grow.

“I felt that this curriculum is really great to work with! I don't consider myself a STEM expert, so I was able to learn alongside the kids, and still deliver the concepts to the group and help them develop the skills to use the EDP and become engineers!”

Sabrina Garcelon, Grades 3-5 afterschool educator, Salem, MA

“This program is one of the best developed and researched curricula that I have seen. EiE changes the way students learn and discover. I am now trying to tie in the rest of my curriculum,(i.e. Math, ELA) to fit around a particular EiE unit!”

Sandi Lewis, Ocean Vide School District, Huntington Beach, CA

“EiE has been everything I've hoped for and more, and is the foundation upon which I have re-imagined my entire classroom. The EiE units help me because they are so comprehensive. Everything I need is included. And yet, I have the creative license to modify the lessons as I see fit, to accommodate my program's unique needs.”
